DOGS OF ALL BREEDS EAT BREWERS YEAST TABLETS LIKE A TREAT

BUT WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF FEEDING IT ?

Brewer's Yeast is a natural feed supplement and by-product of the brewing industry which has been sterilised by heat treatment. It should not be confused with “live” yeast which should not be fed to dogs.

Brewer's Yeast is a single-celled organism called Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Brewer's Yeast is rich in B-complex vitamins, including thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, biotin, and folic acid. These help to build and maintain healthy bone, muscle, coat, red blood cells and nails.

Some trials have shown that Thiamine (Vitamin B1) may repel pests like fleas and mosquitoes and in combination with the other members of the Vitamin B complex may reduce anxiety

Brewer's Yeast also contains the trace elements Chromium, Selenium, Potassium, Iron, Magnesium and Zinc as well as about 50% natural protein, and amino acids including Glutathione believed to protect against free radical diseases,

Selenium is an anti-oxidant which supports the immune system whilst Chromium is involved in the metabolism of glucose and has been used as a supplement in cases of insulin resistance,

Research has shown that Chromium may help nutritionally to maintain a healthy weight and lower cholesterol in both animals and humans,

Brewer's Yeast may be given to dogs as flakes or tablets, and it is included in some pet foods for its nutritional properties and to increase palatability.

As tablets contain an accurately measured amount of Brewer's Yeast they are the most popular and convenient way of feeding this supplement to dogs. Your Vet will advise on a suitable dose and most suggest a supplement of one tablet to around 10lb (4kg) bodyweight daily.

It is important to consult your Vet if a dog is receiving medication particularly for anxiety or depression or has bowel disease or allergy to yeast. Large doses of yeast may cause digestive upsets and excessive wind.

Hyperdrug Vet-Yeast tablets contain 500mg of pure pharmaceutical grade Brewer's Yeast which may be fed whole or crumbled into food. They are available in containers of 100, 250 and 1000.
