How to Measure a Horse Rug

Purchasing a rug for your horse can be tricky particularly as sizing can vary between brands, in the same way that human clothes sizing can vary. It is therefore essential to learn how to  measure your horse accurately to avoid the disappointment of your rug arriving and not being a good fit. 

Thankfully, measuring your horse for a horse rug is quite simple. All you need to do is measure the full length of the horse along the line indicated in the diagram below:

Effectively you need to measure from the centre of their chest to the furthest point of their hind quarters, almost to the tail. 

We always recommend trying a rug for fit over a clean sheet to prevent the rug getting dirty when trying as if soiled the rug will no longer be returnable to the vendor.  

Horse rugs generally are listed in both ft/in as well as cm - however, the table below provides a quick conversion for inches and cm:
