Why breathability depends upon water repellency...
Breathable Softshell garments are most likely to get sweaty and wet inside when used in damp or wet conditions. If the outer fabric absorbs water, the garment can lose up to 70% of its breathability. Therefore, the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) on the outer fabric of your Softshell jacket must be maintained to ensure comfort. It will eventually wear off and need to be renewed with Nikwax Softshell Proof.

Softshells are breathable and stretchy whilst also being highly water and wind repellent. They fit the shape of the wearer, allow the movement of moisture away from the body and at the same time they shed water and protect against wind chill. Softshells provide a versatile outer layer that can cope with most conditions.
To maintain their water repellency and breathability it is essential that the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating is maintained. Nikwax Softshell Proof has been specifically formulated to maintain optimum performance of Softshell fabrics.
Use Nikwax Softshell Proof when your Softshell garment soaks up water...
Your Softshell garment could be soaking up water just because it is dirty. First, try cleaning it with Nikwax Tech Wash, and if it is fairly new, or recently re-waterproofed, the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) will be revitalised just from cleaning. But, once the garment has been thoroughly worn, you will need to add DWR, using Nikwax Softshell Proof, after cleaning first with Nikwax Tech Wash.

Using the right waterproofing product is important. Nikwax Softshell Proof Spray-On is fantastic for Softshell items with wicking linings, as it provides Durable Water Repellency (DWR) without impairing wicking properties. However, if wicking linings aren't present, using Nikwax Softshell Proof Wash-In ensures you won't miss any areas (complete DWR coverage!) and it's easy to apply in a washing machine.

Nikwax Softshell Proof Spray-On is easy and quick to apply, and its highly Durable Water Repellency (DWR) develops on air drying. The need for tumble drying is removed, this saves energy and protects more vulnerable, older, garments from heat.
Nikwax Softshell Proof Spray-On has been specifically designed and optimised for Softshell garments; it leaves a flexible water repellent treatment on individual fibres allowing moisture vapour to pass through, maintaining breathability.
The spray-on application allows for direct treatment of areas which require it most (e.g. elbows and seams on jackets) and will not compromise the properties of internal wicking liners.

For best results remove all non-washable parts and always clean item(s) first with Nikwax Tech Wash. No need to dry item(s) before waterproofing.
Shake well before use.
Protect working surface and lay clean wet fastened garment flat.
Hold bottle 15 cm/6 inches away from garment.
Apply evenly to outside of fabric.
Wait for 2 minutes. Rub in any surplus, especially important on textured fabrics.
Check carefully to ensure no areas have been missed.

Most orders are despatched the same day and standard delivery is 3 to 5 working days from despatch. FAST Expedited options are available at extra cost - these usually arrive in 24-48hrs from dispatch but delays are possible during busy periods.
Postcodes outside of Zone 1 (including some areas within mainland UK) may incur extra carriage charges due to surcharges imposed by the couriers. These will be calculated on the website at the checkout.
NB: Orders placed with faster delivery must be placed before 13:00 to ensure same day dispatch (excluding weekends and bank holidays). Please also check on the product page that the items ordered show 'In Stock' otherwise your order will be delayed until the stock becomes available, which in most cases will only be 24hrs.

Refrigerated Items
Refrigerated items will be sent by carrier or express delivery at a cost of £7.50, with coolpacks, unless you pay for a premium for a refrigerated delivery. We will contact you prior to despatch for your instructions.

*Due to legal requirements medicines may not be returned except to correct an error in despatch or in response to an "official recall".
