Metacam 0.5 mg/ml Oral Suspension for Cats and Guinea Pigs
What is it?
Metacam oral suspension for cats and guinea pigs is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
which is a type of painkiller used to reduce pain and inflammation.
It can be used in cats for both chronic (long-term) musculoskeletal conditions, such as arthritis, and acute
(sudden and short-lived) musculoskeletal disorders, such as an injury.
It can also be used to reduce mild to moderate post-operative pain and inflammation following soft tissue
surgery in cats and guinea pigs, and orthopaedic surgery in cats.
Metacam oral suspension for cats and guinea pigs is available in 3 bottle sizes to suit all pet sizes and
treatment lengths: 3 ml, 15 ml and 30 ml.

medication for pain and inflammation in cats and guinea pigs. Metacam® 0.5 mg/ml is the only licensed
NSAID available for guinea pigs. (MAT value, Kynetec Sep 2023).
How is it administered?
The suspension has a tasty honey flavour and can be given mixed with food or directly into the mouth.
For cats, the suspension is administered using the measuring syringe provided in the box or using
the drop dispenser of the bottle. A dosing dish and syringe is available for guinea pigs.

Metacam oral suspension can only be obtained with a prescription. For further information about
