Horses with a significant Onchocerca microfilariae infection may exhibit reactions like swelling and itching post-treatment. These reactions are believed to stem from the elimination of a substantial number of microfilariae.
In cases of exceptionally high infestation levels, the parasite's destruction might lead to mild, temporary symptoms such as colic and loose feces in the treated horse. In exceedingly rare instances, post-treatment, especially when dealing with a heavy worm burden, colic, diarrhea, and reduced appetite have been documented.
Extremely rarely, allergic reactions, including hypersalivation, lingual edema, urticaria, tachycardia, congested mucous membranes, and subcutaneous edema, have been reported following product administration. If these signs persist, it is imperative to consult a veterinarian for guidance and further evaluation.
It is crucial to prevent dogs and cats from consuming spilled paste or gaining access to used syringes to avoid the risk of adverse effects associated with ivermectin toxicity.
