Equest Pramox Horse Wormer Value 700kg Tube

Equest Pramox is a broad spectrum wormer that is a suitable for pregnant and lactating mares and is licensed to treat encysted small redworm and tapeworm. A combination of two drugs in one oral syringe, Equest Pramox treats roundworm, tapeworm, bots, and encysted redworm larvae stages in horses. Equest Pramox contains Moxidectin and a tapeworm treatment providing unsurpassed broad-spectrum activity.

Equest Pramox Wormer contains the same unique active ingredient of Equest Wormer, and the most effective drug of choice for the control of tapeworm making it a combination wormer often called a dual action horse wormer.

When Should I Use Equest Pramox

Equest Pramox should be used in late autumn or winter to protect against encysted small redworm, ideally after the first frost when temperatures are lower, and is ideal to use in Spring and Autumn as part of your regular horse worming programme. Equest Pramox contains Moxidectin and a tapeworm treatment. For the most effective control of bot infestations, it is recommended to administer the product during the autumn, once the fly season has cconcluded, but before the onset of spring. During this period, the bot larvae may begin pupating, rendering them less responsive to treatment. Treatment for tapeworm is recommended every 6 months, in the spring and autumn

How to Use

EQUEST PRAMOX is easy to administer in a palatable gel formula. EQUEST PRAMOX melts in your horse's mouth to reduce the risk of being spat out. Presented in easy to use dial-a-dose syringes with 25kg graduations; this allows accurate dosing according to your horse's weight.

Before administering the initial dosage, ensure proper syringe orientation with the capped end positioned to the left and the weight measurements and tick marks (small black lines) visible. Reset the syringe to zero by adjusting the dial ring so that the left side aligns precisely with the first complete black mark. Gently depress the plunger, disposing of any expelled material safely.

To determine the appropriate dosage, maintain the syringe in the previously mentioned orientation. Each tick mark corresponds to 25 kg of the animal's body weight and contains 10 mg moxidectin/62.5 mg praziquantel. Rotate the dial ring until the left side of the ring aligns with the weight of the specific animal being treated.

What does Equest Pramox Treat

Equest Pramox is the longest lasting and most effective horse wormer with a single dose for tapeworm, all roundworms including the dangerous encysted small roundworm, as well as bots and pinworm. Equest Pramox is safe for horses as well as pregnant, breeding and lactating mares.

Does Equest Pramox Treat all Horse Worms

Equest Pramox is a combination of two drugs in one horse wormer treating roundworm, tapeworm, bots, and encysted redworm larvae stages in horses. It is the broadest spectrum wormer available.

What Weight Horse Will a Tube Treat

Each Equest Pramox wormer syringe will now treat 700kg,  a weigh bridge is ideal to get the horses weight but this is not always possible, weight tapes for horses can provide a good estimation of your horses weights, accurate dosing is essential with underdosing leading to a untreated horse, and overdosing can lead to some side effects.

What is the Difference Between Equest Pramox and Equest

Equest Pramox is different than Equest in that Pramox also treats tapeworm as a single dose.

No need to double dose for tapeworm.

How Long Does it Take for Equest Pramox to Work

Equest Pramox is a palatable Gel the same as Equest wormer and starts to work in 24-48 hours.

Equest Pramox now fully licensed for breeding, pregnant and lactating mares.

Duration of Action

EQUEST PRAMOX has the longest dosing interval of any combination wormer: 13-weeks. The active ingredient prevents the reappearance of roundworm eggs in the horse's dung for at least 90 days, which is longer than any other active (Jacobs D et al, 1995), (Parr S et al) this gives EQUEST PRAMOX its 13-week dosing interval. Moxidectin can be used in horses which are ‘high shedders' as it has the longest egg suppression period of any of the wormer ingredients. This means it can be used to reduce pasture contamination using the least number of doses.

Resistance to Equest Pramox

EQUEST PRAMOX has no confirmed resistance in horses in the UK or Ireland. EQUEST PRAMOX is licensed to control the increasingly prevalent white benzimidazole wormer resistant strains of small redworm, making it a suitable treatment for new horses arriving at a yard.

Treatment for Horses with Resistance to Wormers

Equest Pramox is also licensed for the management of small strongyle strains that have developed resistance to benzimidazole drugs.

Contraindications, Precautions, and More:

Avoid administering this product to young foals under 6.5 months of age.

Refrain from using Equest Pramox Oral Gel in cases of known hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients.

Please note that Equest Pramox Oral Gel is exclusively formulated for equine use. Dogs or cats could experience adverse effects if they ingest spilled gel or access used syringes due to the concentrated moxidectin content.

To ensure proper administration and prevent cross-contamination, refrain from using the same syringe to treat multiple animals, unless horses share living spaces or are in direct contact with each other on the same premises.

EQUEST PRAMOX is safe to use in horses and ponies, including stallions and mares, and is licensed for use in foals from 6 ½ months. Pramox now fully licensed for breeding, pregnant and lactating mares. Advice on the use of this or alternative medicines must be sought from the medicine prescriber.

Do not use Equest Pramox for sick or neglected horses.

Possible Side Effects

In uncommon occurrences (affecting more than 1 but fewer than 10 animals per 10,000 treated), there have been reports of specific side effects, including incidents of mouth discomfort, a laxity in the lower lip, unsteady gait (ataxia), swelling of the muzzle, heightened sensitivity, and a temporary loss of appetite (anorexia). Extremely rarely (in less than 1 out of 10,000 treated animals, with isolated instances), lethargy has been documented.

These transient adverse reactions may manifest at the recommended dosage for foals and at three times the recommended dosage for adult animals. The symptoms typically emerge within 8 to 24 hours post-treatment and encompass manifestations such as subdued behavior, reduced appetite, unsteady movements, and a lax lower lip. It is noteworthy that symptomatic treatment is usually unnecessary, as recovery typically occurs entirely within a timeframe of 24 to 72 hours.

Using Equest Pramox in Horses With a High Worm Burden

When dealing with significantly elevated worm burdens, the elimination of these parasites can occasionally lead to mild and temporary colic, accompanied by loose faeces in the treated horse.

Further Information

Adult horses over 3yrs old should be treated for Encysted Small Redworm and Bots in late Autumn/early winter and tested or treated for tapeworm at the same time. Throughout the grazing season the need for wormer administration should be based on faecal worm egg counts taken every 2-3 months. This is dependent on good pasture management and regular removal of droppings – reducing the interval between tests may be necessary if pastures are not regularly cleared and rotated.  There is no longer a Equest horse wormer chart to schedule dosing available. If you need advice please ring or email us. EQUEST PRAMOX is the only combination wormer licensed to control small redworms, including the inhibited and developing encysted small redworm larval stages, as well as other roundworm species, bots and all three species of tapeworm.
